Stafforce Dumfries inflict the first league defeat on joint leaders Kelburne to move into third spot and Alexanders take the MoM awards.

In the Western Premier on Saturday at Nunholm Road, Stafforce Dumfries inflicted the first league defeat on joint leaders Kelburne to move into third spot.

Skipper Robert McBride top scored with 33, with support from Davie Davidson, 21 not out, and 19 not out from Niall Alexander as the lower order recovered from 52 for 6 in favourable bowling conditions. They crucially managed to accelerate in the last few overs to reach a total of 140 for 8 to try and defend. Youngster Chris McBride also contributed 20 batting at number four.

In reply Dumfries made life awkward but Kelburne were still well placed at 64 for 2. However three wickets fell on that total , including Sheikh and Hussain, as Niall Alexander and Alan Davidson took five wickets in three overs. After a fine pace bowling effort, Alexander finished with 4 wickets for 30, Davidson two, and Josh Geary two, as Kelburne were all out for 91 for a 49 run Dumfries win.

In the Western Premier Reserve League, Nunholm, Dumfries seconds, lost at Whitehaugh by six wickets. Despite reaching 55 for 3 the side were all out for 69 as Jayasuri proceeded to take six wickets. Whitehaugh were then 5 for 3 and then 29 for 4 after three wickets from opening bowler Stuart Alexander, but a 36 not out from Campbell saw Whitehaugh home.
