Dunbar win again against local rivals
Dunbar 2nd XV – 49 Ross High 2nd XV-22
With Dunbar’s league match against Dalkeith cancelled we welcomed Ross High to Hallhill. They arrived with only 12 players so Robert Lunam and Matt Munro started for Ross High in a 14 a side match. Dunbar also welcomed Robert Thornton-Smith (Mopp) back from his travels in Australia.
Dunbar were ahead in 5 minutes they were awarded a penalty 10 yds out taken quickly by Mopp and he barged over himself past a sleeping Ross High defence just to the right of the posts. Conversion missed by Ross Chalmers. Not long after 2nd row Dougal Wishart chipped the ball through 15 yards out but didn’t have the pace to keep up with the ball before it went over the dead ball line.
A period of back and forth play developed with Ross High failing to capitalise on two interceptions and resulted in Dunbar regaining the ball, driving to the 22 with the ball eventually ending up in Mopp’s hands and he went over from 15 yds out. Conversion again missed.
In 20 minutes a kick through from 22 yds by robert courtney he gathered the ball and from the resultant ruck the ball was passed infield and Dunbar were awarded a penalty on the 22 yard line in front of the posts. Tap was taken and a good passing move between Kyle Donnellan and Mopp led to Dougall Wishart taking an inside pasts and dived over between the posts. Converted by Ross Charlton.
In 30 minutes a good passing move out the line saw Dylan Beveridge sprinting over and touching down under the posts and Ross Charlton successfully converted. 5 minutes later an excellent inter passing move with the ball going through at least 10 pairs of Dunbar hands and Dylan Beveridge again sprinted over and touched down in the corner. Conversion missed.
Just before half time a slack pass by Dunbar resulted in the Ross High stand-off intercepting on the half way line and he sprinted in under the posts. This was converted.
At half time Robert Lunam and Matt Munro returned to Dunbar ranks and Stuart King and colin anderson moved over to the Ross High side. From the kick off play developed with Dunbar in possession and following a couple of rucks on halfway and in the opposition 22 the ball was passed out to Sean Bissett who wriggled his way over from 10 yds out. Conversion missed.
7 minutes into the second half a break down in a Ross High passing move within their own 22 allowed robert courtney to kick and chase and score to the right of the posts. Conversion missed.
A score from Ross High next from a scrum 22 yds from the Dunbar line the ball was passed out to their stand-off who sold a dummy and sprinted over under the posts. Conversion missed.
In 55 minutes Dunbar were awarded a scrum 10 yards from the Ross High line. The ball was passed out to Dylan Beveridge who had taken over at stand-off following a shoulder injury to Ross Chalmers and he sold his opposite number a dummy and and scored under the posts. He converted his own try.
In 65 minutes from a lineout on half way the ball was again fed to Beveridge who spotted gap in front of him and sprinted in unchallenged. Conversion missed.
5 minutes later a good break from 22yds by the Ross High stand-off he was stopped just short of the line but managed to offload to his own 2nd row player and he dived over. Conversion missed.
Ross High scored again with 5 minutes to go when their scrum half broke from the base of the scrum towards the Dunbar line and popped the ball to the other Ross High 2nd row and he scored under the posts. Conversion missed.
Good performances for all involved with a special mention for prop Daryl Keiller who had an outstanding game in the loose and four try hero Dylan Beveridge.
