P4/5 Team - Victory at Blairgowrie!!

3 matches played - 3 wins!

Wasps' P4/5 Team played brilliantly at Blairgowrie this morning.

We had 6 boys available to represent the Section, which was a decent amount given that Cub Camp drew a few of the players away for other activities. Thanks are due to the adults who brought the boys up to Blairgowrie.

Everyone turned up nice and early which gave the boys a great opportunity to warm up properly. The warm up involved running, passing and light contact drills. By the time the first match started, the Team was ready and focussed on playing hard and fast rugby.

Match 1: Wasps 5 - 1 Sharks

Our first game was against Strathmore Sharks. The Sharks are a well-established and well-coached team that have lots of big boys to choose from. Thanks to Strathie, we started off with 2 Sharks players as our substitutes. The P4 boys could easily have been nervous about playing full contact competitive rugby for the first time, but they didn't show it! From the start, they organised themselves into attacking and defensive lines when necessary, closed down the space that Sharks tried to create and smashed in low and hard tackles. They forced Sharks to make mistakes and when Wasps got the ball in hand, ran into space and crossed the try line numerous times.

Match 2: Wasps 7 - 0 Rams

The second match was against the hosts - Blairgowrie Rams. Rams had lots of boys and girls to choose from, but again, the 'Super Six' of Wasps played with no fear and lots of creativity. Wasps players seemed to have rocket fuel in their boots! The boys were so fast at closing down the Rams' attacks, the opposition struggled to keep the ball. Whatever the boys had for breakfast seemed to work! Even the Coaches were surprised at how much energy and enthusiasm the Wasps players put into their tackles and running. Overall, this was the best performance of the day for Wasps. They supported each other and tried to keep the ball in hand when attacking.

Match 3: Wasps 2 - 0 Sharks

By the final match, we could see that the boys were getting a little tired. But, instead of letting the new players that Sharks brought into their team get the better of our boys, the Wasps players gritted their teeth, smashed in their tackles and squeezed through really narrow gaps to score 2 hard-earned tries. This last match showed the Wasps boys have real grit and determination amongst them. They deserved to finish the day with a victory.

Well done boys. Your Coaches and supporters are very proud of you and how you played this morning. There was good sportsmanship shown towards Sharks and Rams and you worked well together as a TEAM. Now you have shown us how good you can be, training will be even tougher next week!!! Prepare for lots of bear crawls and tackle drills!!

Team: Adam, Angus, Freddie, Luke, Ross and Sandy.
