Under 15s return to action
Happy New Year to everyone at the club from the Under 15s
We returned to competitive action today for the first time since October visiting Falkirk for a rearranged league fixture, the first of five still to be played.
The boys were decked out in their new club kit and I don’t think I have seen as many well-polished boots for an encounter before. Surprisingly the game itself was played out in what proved to be a dry afternoon, no rain whatsoever (a miracle !!!).
To the action, and a failure to catch the kick off meant Dunfermline were on the defensive from the start however despite Falkirk trying to attack round the edges of the rucks, the defence stood firm. However pressure eventually paid with the boys losing the first try from a pick and go off a scrum in the 22. Dunfermline went on the attack however they were turned over and Falkirk went back on attack. A backs move finally saw their winger break free and add the second try. Two more scores followed before half time to see us down by 4 scores and staring another big defeat in the face.
However a bit of tinkering to the side and we started to come more into the match. Early on in the second we started winning possesion and a series of phases saw us take the ball into the Falkirk 22 and after some good recycling, the backs moved the ball along the line for Callum to score in the corner. Thereafter Dunfermline gave as good as they got in a keenly fought second half, seeing much more of the ball and defending much better keeping Falkirk to just one further score with a run in from a short tap penalty in the 22. Dunfermline finished the game on the attack with Cammy denied a good try after a knock on was called before Euan was bundled into touch in the 22 as we attacked in the final minute. Final score Falkirk 29 v Dunfermline 5.
So, a first game since October and whilst there was an element of rustiness, there was also plenty to be positive about and lots of good things which we can build on at training ahead of the next game.
Thanks to Falkirk for the game today, to everyone who travelled through to support the boys. Special mention to our four s2 players Euan, Cammy, Jonathon and Thomas for turning out for us today and for playing their part in the team performance.
Watch out for Davie’s texts / emails on this weeks training and next Sundays game.
