Sunday saw the season draw to a close with a trip up to Mackie at Stonehaven.

The game was played out in difficult windy conditions that would have been more at home in February than May and with a somewhat depleted squad, todays encounter against a well drilled Mackie with strong runners at 8, 10 and 12 meant this game would prove to be as difficult as the conditions itself.

Mackie played some enterprising stuff despite the gale and scored three unanswered tries in the first half. Dunfermline’s only attack coming from a clever kick ahead from Craig which the full back covered just in time from the Dunfermline chasers. Jamie scored what proved to be our only try of the day at the start of the second half however Mackie used the wind to good effect in the second period scoring another four tries leaving the boys well beaten. The final period saw Mackie run in further scores with Dunfermline’s defence going AWOL.

So another frustrating performance, whilst the squad attempted to play some rugby, the lack of support and failure to protect the ball at the breakdown meant we were too easily turned over and got no real foothold in the game, whilst when Mackie attacked, too many tackles were missed allowing them some easy scores.

Thanks to everyone who made the trip to Mackie, the support was much appreciated. Thanks also to Mackie for hosting us today and for what was a good game, well refereed in difficult conditions.

So time for a break now with the season at an end before a summer regroup and the chance to start building towards next season. The coaches will be meeting shortly to talk through how we do this and the key focuses for the sessions so watch this space for details.
