Dunfermline vs Livingston & Currie

2 Wins and a Draw for the P3s

Dunfermline P3s enjoyed a successful home tournament, entertaining a two teams from Livingston and one from Currie.
Oliver, Charlie W and Kyle made their debuts.

Match 1: Dunfermline 7 - 1 Livingston A
Dunfermline started well with an early try from Duncan. Consistently good chasing from the Dunfermline defenders put Livingston on the back foot, and when the turnovers came, Andrew and Charlie B finished good attacking moves with tries to put Dunfermline into a comfortable 3-0 lead at half time.
In the second half, Dunfermline carried on from where they left off, and pegged Livingston back in their own half. Charlie W showed some good running with ball in hand, and scored a try in his debut match by finishing off a good handling move. Livingston tried hard in defence, but Dunfermline played with a lot of width and managed to get them out of shape, with further tries coming from Charlie B, Andrew and Austin. Livingston scored a deserved consolation try late in the game.

Match 2: Dunfermline 2 - 0 Livingston B
Dunfermline played this game with another hard working defensive effort, and played most of the game in the Livingston half. However a bit of over eagerness coupled with less ambition to put the ball through the hands - compared to the first game - meant that Dunfermline struggled to put a very determined Livingston away. A first half try from Duncan was added to by a second half score from Andrew, to seal the win for Dunfermline. The telling factor was that the defence was excellent, with everyone prepared to get stuck in and make the tackles.

Match 3: Dunfermline 3 - 3 Currie
A few pointers from Garret and a bit of work between games on passing the ball along the line seemed to pay dividends, with good passing to players in space putting Duncan across the try line early in this game. An excellent first half saw Dunfermline soak up all that Currie threw at them, before Duncan scored a second try. Aidan finally got the reward of a try, after several good carries, to put Dunfermline 3-0 up at half time.
Currie came back at Dunfermline in the second half and scored a decent early try. Dunfermline continued to attack well when they had the ball in hand, but the Currie defence held firm. Both teams certainly knew they were in a tough game, with Duncan, Aidan and Andrew all having to come off after taking knocks, and eventually Currie got a second try despite excellent defensive efforts from Austin. In the last play of the match, Dunfermline looked like they had done enough to repell another Currie attack, but a defensive lapse allowed Currie to score and get the draw.

All in all a good display from Dunfermline. With the exception of the second game, where we seemed to make hard work of it by not getting the ball wide, we showed real improvements in passing and taking the ball at speed. Defensively we were solid with just the odd lapse, and importantly the boys showed that they could organise themselves amazingly well on the field, with Garret letting them get on with it in the last game. For P3s, this early in the season, that shows a really good grasp of the game.
