RBS Championship Division A side, Dunfermline were the proud winners of the coaching award, which is won by clubs who are invested in building a positive culture and future throughout their infrastructure.

Lawson said: "On behalf of the Bill McLaren Foundation I would like to congratulate Dunfermline on achieving the Positive Coaching Scotland accreditation.

“The commitment and enthusiasm of the coaches, players and parents highlights what can be achieved and everyone concerned deserves enormous credit.

“On a family front, Dunfermline mini section was the first club that our sons Gregor and Rory joined and for us being with the minis and midis brought back such fond memories, which made the presentation even more special."

Some 35 coaches and 95 parents got behind the club to help them win the award as they worked closely with the programme leader, Andy Morgan and Positive Coaching Scotland manager, Bosman Du Plessis, over the past year.

Morgan said: “Having now completed the first part of the Positive Coaching Scotland journey, I can say without hesitation that the process has proved to be a catalyst for 'positive' change at our club.

“The input from young players, as well as coaches and leaders, who were not content to just tick boxes, but work hard to crystallise the ethos of Bill McLaren and that of the Positive Coaching Scotland Programme to create a club culture that is relevant to all involved in our club has been extremely valuable.”

The Positive Coaching Scotland programme in association with The Bill McLaren Foundation operates as a partnership between sportscotland, the Winning Scotland Foundation, the Bill McLaren Foundation and Scottish Rugby and has the main aims to build and sustain a strong and positive rugby culture in order to develop young rugby players and develop young people through the sport. This programme forms part of sportscotland’s national roll out of the Positive Coaching Scotland programme through governing bodies and local authorities.

Dunfermline joins Alloa, Bishopton, Duns, Ellon, Hillfoots, Langholm, Lasswade, and Stew-Mel Lions in winning the award.
