Dunfermline S2s win at East Kilbride

A strong start, but no fireworks from Dunfermline

Dunfermline travelled to another new venue to play East Kilbride. Conditions were good, crisp and cold, though the East Kilbride pitch was very heavy in places.
East Kilbride had 13 players, so we opted to match numbers and play without flankers.
Dunfermline were very quickly out of the blocks, with us returning the kick off with a sweeping move to the left, for Finlee to run in a try from his 22. The next restart saw good carries from Kian and Aidan, before Gregor collected on his own 10m line and ran in. A show-and-go from Kian created the space for Finlee to run in another score, and a turn-over from an East Kilbride attack saw Kian run ut of his own 22 to score. Andrew converted all of these, and we had quickly run up a 16-0 lead within 10 minutes.
Thereafter we made it hard for ourselves, by failing to keep a good defensive line, ruck well enough, or tackle low. East Kilbride were soon on the score sheet, and while our attack turned scrappy, Duncan made a good run to weave his way though from his own half and score a fifth try.
East Kilbride scored their 2nd try after a run down the left was stopped illegally by a high tackle; they then spun the ball to the right and scored a decent try.
Half time East Kilbride 6 - 19 Dunfermline

Onto the 2nd half, and after a scrappy start, Andrew switched the attack from right to left, and found Duncan who scored his second try from deep.
East Kilbride attacked again, and some poor Dunfermline tackling (too high again!) and a failure to clear our lines eventually led to a 3rd home score.
Dunfermline attacked from the next restart, winning a penalty on the right around halfway. Some nice passes took the ball to the left side where Kian had the space and pace to score our 7th try. After weathering an East Kilbride attack, Andrew gathered and threw a long pass to Kailo, who passed swiftly on to Gregor, who managed to run the length of the field to complete Dunfermline's scoring tally.
East Kilbride were not finished, winning a penalty within the Dunfermline 22. While Dunfermline turned over possession and won a scrum, we failed again to clear our lines, conceding another penalty, and this time East Kilbride scored their 4th try.
Final Score - East Kilbride 12 - 30 Dunfermline
