Greenwood Meadows 3-2 Dunkirk

Dunkirk lost in the Meadows once again as Hopper snatches dramatic late win!

Dunkirk travelled to local rivals and near neighbours Greenwood Meadows as they looked to reach the quarter finals of the Nottinghanshire Senior Cup. Greenwood play a level below "The Boatmen" but with Dunkirks inconsistent form that has plagued them throughout the season a cup shock looked to be more than on the cards. This Pre match analysis though looked a possibility when on only 2 minutes Greenwood raced into the lead. Some hesitant defending from Dunkirk saw Jaylee Hodgson run through to round the indesisive Dunkirk goalkeeper and fire his side into the lead. Maybe this was the kick up the back side that Dunkirk needed and on 7 minutes they levelled. Again poor defending but this time from Greenwood saw one of the Grenwood defensive quartet head the ball over his own goalkeeper as Tony Law put him under pressure and Lavell White was on hand to usher the ball over the goal line. This is how the score stayed until the break but it was that man Hodgson who again latched onto a through ball as he ran through to lift the ball over the Dunkirk goalkeeper to regain the lead for his side. Back came Dunkirk as Ricky Law's lofted set piece deceived the Greenwood goalkeeper and nestled in the top corner of the net. But just when the game looked to be heading into extra time a Greenwood cross from right saw Dunkirk goalkeeper Mountain flapping as he was challenged by Jack Hopper and the Greenwood striker managed to get enough contact on the ball with his head to send his side through to the quarter finals to meet Clifton.
