Club Development Update - Langtongate
Phase one - It looks very much like the weather Gods have won the day, with work yet again stopped on the new pitch and training ground. To date, the pitch has been widened and levelled. In addition, the main drain has been installed together with the laterals and reinstated. Still to be done is the sand slitting of the length of the pitch, electric cable ducting and re-seeding. Who would have thought that back in May when work commenced we would be where we are now - work still to be done and the autumn upon us ! We will need to sit down with the contractors and decide on the best action plan - whether to persevere or leave everything until the spring.
Floodlighting of Training Ground and Main Pitch
Phase two - We will be floodlighting both the training ground and the main pitch. This project is now nearly fully funded and ready to go. The bases for the floodlighting columns will be installed on each area in the weeks ahead, and the electricity supply connection is imminent. The total cost of the project is just under £90k, and the Club is delighted to announce that funding has been pledged from the following organisations :-
The Robertson Trust
Scottish Rugby Union
The Gannochy Trust
Lammermuir Community Fund
The project sub-committee will be meeting in the next few days to finalise the actions required to address the small funding shortfall.
The new Clubhouse
Phase three – The new Clubhouse which will be formed from the old gym building is now starting to come forward. The club have given the necessary instructions to lawyers to have the building ownership transferred from Scottish Borders Council. We will have the water in the building reconnected in the days ahead, which will enable the club to organise a proper clean-up. The drawings for the conversion of the building are nearly ready to be viewed by the members. At some stage in the future we will have an open day so that all members of the Club can have a guided tour of the site and see at first hand what is being proposed.
