Duns Colts travelled to second-placed Gala Wanderers in the Scottish Borders Semi Junior league and put up a very creditable performance against a very strong side, eventually going down to a 33 - 7 defeat.
For 14 minutes the Colts manfully soaked up Gala pressure but eventually succumbed to a converted try to go 7-0 down. On the 16 minute mark they conceded a further unconverted try to go 12-0 down.
The Colts then started to get more into their stride but weren't quick enough to get up on the Gala backs and were mostly on the back foot for the remainder of the first half.
Just before half time they conceded yet another converted try to go into the break 19-0 down
The second half did not start well, with a converted try to Gala within the first minute. The Colts were much more positive during the second half and stuck in manfully, but it was all a little too late and Gala added to their misery with another converted try on the 53 minute mark, taking the score to 33-0.
In the dying moments the best try of the whole game came from Duns. A long breakaway run from Iain Sim in the 69th minute was ably supported by James Thompson, who passed to Scott McEachen to finish gloriously. The try was converted by Dom Ginn.
Final score 33-7. The Colts' manner and behaviour on and off the field was impeccable and even commented on afterwards by the referee.
