Duns RFC have a busy pre-season schedule arranged for later this month, with both First and Second XVs having fixtures arranged.
Numbers at pre-season training have been excellent so far, with more than 40 different players turning up to date, including a number of new faces, which bodes particularly well for the season ahead.
The First XV season gets under way next saturday, 11th August, when Duns take part in the Preston Lodge Ten-a-Side Tournament. The Tournament is being played in two groups, each of four sides, with the four sides in each group playing each other in matches of 10 minutes each way duration. There are then cross-over semi-finals and a final at around 5.30 pm.
Duns have been drawn in group A, along with East Kilbride, Murrayfield Wanderers and North Berwick, and play their friends from East Lothian first up, with the match scheduled to kick off at 1.10 pm.
Group B is made up of Preston Lodge, Dunfermline, Strathmore and East Kilbride B.
The following saturday, 18th August, Duns RFC will receive full accreditation under the Positive Coaching Scotland initiative - of which please read more elsewhere on the website. The presentation will be made by Alan Lawson, current President of the Scottish Rugby Union, at the new Berwickshire High School, at around 12 noon.
Following the presentation, Duns 1st and 2nd Fifteens will entertain Glasgow Academicals 1sts and 2nds at the Hardens and Berwickshire High School respectively, with both matches scheduled to kick off at 2.30 pm.
A week later, the pre-season programme will be completed when the First XV visit Tranent for a friendly match against Ross High, while the Second XV entertain Berwick 2nds in a 'friendly' match at the Hardens.
The league programme gets under way for both sides on September 1st, when the Firsts visit Linlithgow in RBS East Regional League Division 1, and the Seconds entertain Edinburgh Northern Seconds in RBS Reserve League East 3A. Both matches start at 3 pm.
