Duns 2nd XV 15 Lasswade 3rd XV 10
Duns entertained Lasswade for the return leg of their league fixture having lost the opening encounter 43-40.
Duns won the toss and elected to play down the Hardens slope with a view to racking up the points by half time. The second string have been putting together a good series of results of late and today's opposition were to prove a real test of character. The home side opened the scoring with wing Terrence Trotter
crossing the whitewash in the corner too far out for the conversion. Duns had other scoring chances soon after but the Lasswade defence held until the 21st minute when a great move from the backs saw Jamie Semple slice open the visitors back line to touch down. Again the conversion was missed.
On the half hour mark matters boiled over with a serious scuffle. This unfortunately led to Duns being reduced to 14 men for the duration after Darren Aitchison
saw red for retaliation. This gave Lasswade momentum and they then battered the Duns line before scoring on the stroke of half time.
The half time team talk was very frank. They players had to front up against a team that was now back in the game and full of confidence. The young second team stuck to the task in hand and weathered the early and anticipated Lasswade onslaught. Then a swift move by the Duns back line opened up the visitors defence for Alan Hislop to score in the corner.
Lasswade replied with a great try from their inside centre. The conversion was missed but with 10 minutes to go the match was set for a grandstand finish. Lasswade pressed but the well organised Duns defence held on to record a well earned win.
Overall a solid performance from the second string youngsters with a little help from Doc Aitken and the Davey Duncan.
