Like England, the Dunstablians started brightly, but unlike England they went on to achieve against a strong Huntingdon side

With weather conditions ideal, the Dunstablians still without their scrum half Captain Stuart Hall (shoulder injury) took to the field with confidence after last week’s win against Vipers.

Dunstablians Michael Leversidge started an early attack with a great kick to the corner following a penalty and with fowards mauling from the line out, drew in the defence then back down the blind side Tom Evans was able to offload for the veteran James Noel to dive over. No conversion. Dunstablians kept up the pressure with more pick and carries from the forwards and again Tom Evans was able to offload out of contact to Scott Warren who strolled under the sticks. Conversion added making the score 12-0 after just twenty minutes. Huntingdon struck back with a penalty and a converted try after poor discipline from the home side. With the score now at 12-10 Dunstablians started to turn the screw in the scrums with the D‘s front row getting the better of their opposite numbers. Huntingdon came close to their second try then to realise the ball was only at the 5m line not over the try line. However after some missed tackles Huntingdon were able to crash over for their second try making it 15-12 to the visitors at the break. The second half started with the D‘s pack still dominating the scrums and a number of consecutive penalties saw the Huntingdon scrum half sin binned. After some good kicking to touch, again from Leversidge the Dunstablians were able to capitalize in the extra man with Stuart Calder leaping athletically over the ruck to touch down making the score 17-15 to the home side, the conversion being missed. Further ill discipline from the away side resulted in a penalty in front of the posts which Ashley Warren confidently converted. The rest of the second half saw the home side dominate their opposite pack and some strong patient defence from the backs enabled the D‘s to see the rest of the game without conceding any more points.

First Team Manager Damian Daize said after the game “It was good to see the side showing some real moments of magic with skills that would outshine most in this league. With this spirited effort and with a consistency over the whole game, we look forward to a good game at Newbold on Avon next Saturday”
