Dunton lost their final friendly at home on Tuesday night against an impressive Arlesey Town reserve side, who after scoring in the opening minute, ran out 5-4 winners. Trailing 2-1 at half time, The Greens were never able to wrestle control of the game, & the performance left manager Barry Morris plenty to think about in the run up to the 1st league game on Saturday (Home to Shefford Town & Campton).
"It was a disappointing performance in my eyes" stated Morris. "We seemed slightly lethargic all game, & I would say that Arlesey perhaps deserved to win by more than the one goal on the night. As a group we did take some information from the game. The system we play really suited us last season when our home games were at Horseshoe Close in Dunton, but now we're on a much larger pitch at Biggleswade Town it leaves us with a huge amount of work to do in regaining possesion. We haven't been compact on this new pitch & there have been too many gaps between our players for the opposition to exploit. It's something we're looking at together as a squad & will probably mean that we'll adapt our system to suit the size of the pitch for the season ahead."
The Dunton goals were scored by Paul Chamberlain, Paul Mercer & 16 year old former youth team player Jamie Turner, who scored a brace in only his second 1st team appearance.
Dunton host Shefford Town & Campton in the Premier division at Biggleswade Town's Stadium on the second pitch on Saturday, kick-off 14:30. The two clubs 'A' sides face off in division 4 at Dunton's Horseshoe Close at the same time.
