Dunvant led 17-15 at half time and saw a 29-20 lead eroded with Beddau snatching victory with the last play to break Dunvant’s heart

Dunvant somehow manage to snatch defeat from jaws of victory

Dunvant welcomed Beddau to Broadacre on their first ever visit and somehow managed to lose a game they were in control of until the last 12 seconds. On a bright sunny afternoon Dunvant had a very slight advantage of the light breeze which allowed both sides to play open and attractive rugby refereed with empathy by Wayne Davies, sometimes to the frustration of the coaches but it made for a flowing game. Danny Davies made a long awaited return to first team action along with Shaun Davies in the front row.

An open first half resulted in both sides scoring 2 tries apiece for Dunvant to lead 17-15 at the break. Adam Williams and Danny Davies on his return both scoring tries with Aled Lewis converting both and adding a penalty.

After the break Beddau hit back with an unconverted try to lead 20-17. Concerted pressure from both forwards and backs led to Josh Cuggy be put in on the overlap for an unconverted try. More pressure led to Jamie Nicholas scoring an excellent try after some deft handling by Danny Davies converted by Aled Lewis for Dunvant to lead 29-20 with 10 minutes left.

The home side seemed to be comfortably holding the visitors at bay without any major concerns until a forward drive from a lineout led to an unconverted try with 2 minutes to go. From the restart Dunvant regained procession before needlessly kicking the ball into touch with seconds to go. From the resultant line out Beddau moved the ball through several phases to score an excellent team try to win the match.

The rugby club singers man of the match was interestingly awarded to the whole team when still leading 29-20 to the surprise of many watching. This again was a game we could and should have won and lost through not controlling the ball when in procession and making wrong decisions at critical times.
