DUNVANT R.F.C. PLAYER RECEIVES AN APOLOGY FROM TONMAWR R.F.C.(Jan 30th) image

Dunvant’s CERI DAVIES and the Club have received an apology from Tonmawr R.F.C. for wrongly identifying Ceri as having received a 2 year drugs ban.

Dunvant’s front row forward CERI DAVIES and the Club have received a written apology from Tonmawr R.F.C. for wrongly identifying Ceri as having received a 2 year ban for failing a drug test.
Earlier in January, Tonmawr R.F.C. published on their website that another Ceri Davies, who had been playing for their first team had been suspended from playing for 2 years following a positive drugs test after one of their matches in October 2011. Unfortunately, the article attributed Dunvant’s Ceri Davies with his date/place of birth, Dunvant player etc to the banned player, causing some concern to both Ceri and his family. An item also appeared in the “Evening Post” mentioning the ban against a ‘local player’ identified as a Ceri Davies, causing further concerns.
Following a conversation between our Hon.Sec. Paul Loughlin and his counterpart at Tonmawr R.F.C., both Ceri and Dunvant R.F.C. have now received letters from Tonmawr R.F.C. expressing their sincere apologies for this misidentification, stating that their website had obtained the details of the wrong player from their own system, another Ceri Davies , registered to Abercrave R.F.C. and playing on permit for Tonmawr on the day in question. Our Ceri was in fact playing for Dunvant at Tumble on the same day.

Tonmawr’s letter reads as follows:

Dear Mr. Davies,
We have been informed that the suspension for taking illegal substances of a player playing for us on permit from Abercrave R.F.C., namely Mr Ceri Davies has caused embarrassment to yourself and your family. On behalf of Tonmawr Rugby Football Club may I offer our sincere apologies for any distress this incident has caused.

I don’t understand how your details were attributed to Mr. Davies on our website, other than assuming our website server imputed your details from information on their system. We as a club have no information on Mr. Davies as he is registered with Abercrave R.F.C. and was permitted to us on the day.

Once again our sincere apologies for the mix up and any distress this has caused.
Kindest regards
Cledwyn Edwards
Honorary Secretary.

c.c. Mr. Paul Loughlin, Honorary Secretary, Dunvant r.F.C.
