DUNVANT 2nds RUN IN SEVEN TRIES
Dunvant 2nds spread the ball to fine space outside a strong Morriston pack to win 43-5
Dunvant returned to Broadarce this week, although with few late drop outs left the 2nds having slightly less player numbers than they would have wanted, however with a massive Morriston pack adopting for a passive scrum this made life a little easier to juggle the bench.
It was Morriston that had all the possession in the first 10 minutes, however Dunvant keep the score at 0-0. Then with their first control Dunvant spread the ball and saw Scrum Half Tom Cogram open the scoring. A further try came when Jack Petherbridge, who made a great break down the near touchline, dummying to Scott Edwards taking out two players then passing inside to the supporting Hooker Scott McGregor to score under the posts. Morrison still had their fair share of possession and where knocking back the passive Dunvant defence which eventually bought them in reach of the Dunvant line. Again the defence did not move forward to the attach and this allowed Morriston to batter over for their score. However Dunvant finished the half the stronger with a back row move to the right side of the scrum which saw Number 8 Mark Loughlin wrap around Michael Arnold to punch through a gap and score. This again converted and the half time score was 19-5 to Dunvant.
At half time the returning ‘hero’ Jack Thomas, who had been on duty with the Royal Airforce helping out with the hurricane disaster in the Caribbean (in a 5 start hotel in Barbados!), came on to the field. Dunvant started the second half with a much quicker defensive line. It was this speed that stopped Morriston gaining momentum and eventually forced mistakes and turning over of the ball. This gave Dunvant possession to play their wide game that brought them success in the first half. Trys came from Full Back Dan Muxworthy and Centre Jack Petherbridge which stretched the Dunvant lead. Further replacements saw Matt Richards and Daniel Cashman come on to the field and it was Matt who scored the next try. The game was concluded with Flanker Mike Mizzi running in for the last score. With another good kicking display from Outside Half Jack Newbury this brought the final score to 43-5 to Dunvant.
Next week we host Bonymaen and hope to put right the defeat in the first game of the season. Bony haven’t lost yet this year so it will be a tough ask. Your support for this game would be appreciate.
