Before the season started Yr Hendy, who finished runners up to Whitland in Division 2 West last season, told us they were venturing into the unknown but would be happy to finish mid table in their first ever season in Division 1 West. We were their first opponents and although we came away with a comfortable 15-37 win it was quite a challenging contest. Since then Hendy have gained in confidence and have already won 6 of their 10 games. They now sit above Dunvant in 4th place and so far along with Dunvant’s magnificent 35-17 win over Felinfoel, Yr Hendy are the only other side to beat Champions Felinfoel winning 32-23.They have scored 30 tries and have 29 points. Dunvant have scored 26 tries in 8 games and now have 24 points after a 2 point deduction.
Coached by Wales International and Scarlet Aaron Shingler, both Shingler brothers having played for Yr Hendy during their rise to fame, they are clearly a team on the rise.
With Dunvant currently rebuilding and using a number of 2nd team and last years youth players in the 1st team squads this season, all of whom are challenging for a regular place in the team, we are delighted to be in 5th place with 5 wins, our 3 defeats all being within 1 score of the winner.
Today’s game is an intriguing contest and should be a thriller from start to finish and we need our supporters to be in full voice for this one.
