14 January 2012
Today we welcome Cleckheaton to Hollow Drift for the first home North 1 East League match of 2012, players, officials and supporters alike, and whatever the outcome hope they have a good day and are getting over Santa’s unwanted little bounty of a 5 league points deduction, which mysteriously appeared in the RFU Table last week – at the risk of lighting the blue touch paper, what’s that all about?
Our “unwanted little bounty” was a 60 – 3 thumping at Sheffield last week – welcome to the New Year boys – following a four match winning streak before Christmas. I’ll say no more other than to hope that it serves as a wake-up call for this afternoon and the remainder of the season!
No match for the Seconds last week but today they’re at home to Northern in the Candy League whilst the Thirds went down at Ponteland and today have no game. Meanwhile, at Junior and Mini level, things were back in full swing last Sunday, I’m told, but unfortunately details have evaded me. Tomorrow however, all Minis (U7s to 12s) are at home to Billingham, U13s and 15s away to West Hartlepool, U14s and 16s at home to West Hartlepool and U18s away to Cockermouth.
Christmas festivities? A cracking, hilarious Christmas Party themed on karioke fancy-dressed as the singing stars was thoroughly enjoyed by those who attendedbut sadly let down by those who didn’t, the Children’s Christmas party where numbers were certainly not a problem (hundreds of the little darlings having a ball!), a monumental Boxing Day both in the bar and on the pitch for the internal U.25s v O.25s (ish!) game – would that we could get 60 players committing themselves to playing every week! Many thanks to the organisers of all these events!
Right, that’s it! Let’s hope we have a good game!
