Three generations of one club family represent the DCRFC family in honouring our players who gave their lives in both World Wars.

Our war memorial hangs incongruously at the front of the clubhouse, easily missed in the hurry to get to training or a game, but it was the centre of attention on Remembrance Sunday as the City family joined forces to pay their respects to those former players who gave their lives in both World Wars.

Three generations of the Hay family joined club President Richard WIlkinson and Chairman of Rugby Wally Howard in laying a wreath at the memorial, signalling the start of a minute's silence which was also observed by over 200 youngsters and their families out on the pitch.

Billy Hay played for CIty in the golden age of the 1950s and 1960s and is an honorary life member, former Club Captain and President. His son, Michael, still plays for the 1st XV, is also a former Captain and now coaches the U12 squad, whilst his sons, Herbie and Charlie, are both setting out on their rugby careers.

Later in the afternoon we were honoured to host 200 retired and active service personnel after the Remembrance Parade from the cathedral, not least representatives from the army, Paras, the Fire Servce and two Chelsea Pensioners, all resplendent in full dress. It was fantastic to have the opportunity to be a real part of the Durham community on such a special day, and we look forward to welcoming them next year when we will be marking the centenary of the end of World War 1.
