I sincerely hope there’s actually no need for this to be said and would apologise if my comments are seen to be overly-forthright, but you’ve all had plenty of notice and if old member Sandy Roberton can fly in from Canada for it and Tynedale can make the effort to send a 30 strong busload down for the night (welcome fellers and thanks!) to support the fund for Kevin Showler, last year’s First Team captain and a City lad through and through from Minis to adulthood (a couple of years at Tynedale excepted) , then it would be a pretty sad indictment of City as a club if we don’t fill the clubhouse to the rafters for one of our own and make a substantial contribution to the fund in a time of need! I’ll make no bones about it – Kev’s medical problem could just as easily be your’s, so fingers out please folks, let’s make it a night to remember!
With apologies for feeling I had to get that in first, I would offer a very warm Hollow Drift welcome to Billingham today, players, officials and supporters alike, together with referee James Brown from the Liverpool Society. Having sampled the delights of National 3 North last season, they’re obviously intent on having another dabble next year as they sit in prime position to win North 1 East again, and with their free-flowing style of play, City’s winning home record this season is clearly under threat. Yet with several players missing (and today’s no different!), we’ve managed thus far, so it should be an interesting match.
No rugby last week again, bar the Second Team’s defeat at Alnwick in the Candy League, but today it’s Second and Third Teams County Cup day. The Seconds should have been at home, but Ryton, struggling with injuries, conceded the tie on Thursday night and so it’s a game from the pool if we can find one. The Thirds meanwhile, are away to Billingham, so good luck to them!
Tomorrow at Mini level, the Under 7s to 10s are at home to Guisborough and Hartlepool Rovers in triangular games and the U.11s and 12s away to Middlesbrough. At Junior level, the U.14s are at home to Westoe, the U.16s away to Westoe and the 18s away to Bishop Auckland. The U.13s and 15s games meanwhile are to be confirmed.
Advance notice now of an evening game at Hollow Drift on MONDAY, 27th FEBRUARY – DURHAM UNIVERSITY v NEWCASTLE FALCONS (Academy?)
K.O TIME - TBC- OK – nothing more to add! Enjoy the afternoon and be there tonight please!
