Biography
Having started playing at just 5 years old, Tom has played all of his club rugby at City, working through our mini and Juniors to join the Senior ranks in 2001. Tom also played for Durham School and Leeds Carnegie University as a student as well as playing for the County at U14, U15, U16 and U18, captaining them for the 2001-2 season. One of Tom's most memorable moments stemmed from this time in his playing career - reaching Twickenham for the Daily Mail's Schools cup final in 2001.
His first Senior game was for our 1st XV against Gosforth in 2001 and 14 years later he was still in the squad for another of his most memorable moments - winning the league title in 2015.
Tom's rugby hero is Richard Hill who he loved to watch play in the 2003 World Cup games, a player not in the limelight but such an integral part of that triumphant team. However, we're sure that Geoff Parling is up there on Tom's list too, having broken his ankle when he dropped him in a lineout during a schools game. No doubt Geoff would have had three more Lions caps if Tom had managed to hold him up !
