An exceptionally strong team spirit was shown by the Durham Tigers Open Age team on Saturday when they took to the field against a strong Peterlee Pumas team who had already posted 2 wins this season .
Everyone was pumped up for the game and they certainly showed that on the field in the first half . Some strong runs from the forwards and great support play from the backs was what the coach Matthew Styran had been asking for all season and it finally appeared in this game .
Neil Scullion scored the first try of the day with his trademark shimmy shimmy step technique and strong running powering over the line . Then another great team effort worked the play towards the Peterlee try line and Neil Scullion powered over yet again for his second try of the day .
Peterlee hit back with a well worked try of their own to take the score to 8 - 4 . After some great attacking and defensive work from both teams followed then another great team effort released Lee Goulding ( Ferret ) to score in the corner to take it to 12 - 4 .
Peterlee struck back again bringing the half time score to 12 - 8 .
The second half started well for the Durham Tigers scoring again through Anthony Smith's well worked try on the wing again . Peterlee then pulled two tries back with one of them being a great solo effort .
The next score was a sensational 60 metre solo effort from Jonny Griffith stepping through 4 defenders and leaving them for dead .
Scott Shield scored the next try after some great defence from the Tigers and then some even better team work .
Finally Neil Scullion scored his hat trick with yet another barn storming run finding a gap and powering over .
All in all the whole team worked excellent together and they are starting to gel as a team . Each and everyone of them should be proud of their own performances today and I hope they can build on this and take it into the next game .
Final Score : Peterlee Pumas 24 - 36 Durham Tigers
