The Open Age season finally kicks off this weekend with the Durham Tigers Open Age team travelling to Whitley Bay Barbarians for our first ever league fixture of the 2012 season .
A lot of work has gone into recruiting a squad of players to compete in the North East Regional Mens Competition and some of the team have been training since last July in preparation for this season .
Most of our players are brand new to the game of Rugby League and a lot of training has been needed to get the lads up to speed with the rules of the game and also what is expected of their respective positions on the field .
We are taking this season as an experimental season to see what it's all about and we are hoping to sneak a few wins along the way and then regroup next season to take it a bit more seriously . This season is all about having a bit of fun and enjoying the game .
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped us get this far , and a special thank you to all the players for turning up every week for training through the winter when we have been training in snow , rain and - 10 c temperatures at times . Let's hope it's all worth it at the end of the season .
