Two new teams go head to head for the first time ever

The Durham Tigers Open Age team will welcome Miners RL to Shildon for the first ever competitive game for both sides on Sunday the 25th of March .

Both clubs are in the similar position of being brand new teams entering the Regional League for the very first time .

Miners RL are a brand new club based in Ashington , Northumberland and the club is run by two true rugby league fanatics father and son duo Trevor and Graham Murdie . They have done some amazing work to get where they are today and the future for the Miners is looking good .

As most people are aware the Durham Tigers has a successful junior set up but the open age part of the club has had a very mixed history and they haven't had any involvement in adult rugby league for some time now . But times are changing and they now have a solid base of players and backroom staff to build on and the Tigers are hoping to have some success this year in the league and in the cup .

The game on the 25th of March is in the Selby District Cup and will be the first competitive game for both clubs and it should be a great game . The winning team will progress to the next stage of the cup and they will be facing stiff opposition playing a team from the Yorkshire Leagues .

Whatever the result it will be a massive day for both the Durham Tigers and Miners RL .

If your at a loose end on Sunday the 25th March at 2pm why not come down to the Sunnydale Leisure Centre in Shildon DL4 2EP and watch what should be a great game of Rugby League for FREE .

If you would like to find out more about the Miners check out there website http://www.minersrl.co.uk/.

I hope to see you all on the day .

Matthew .

Open Age Head Coach .
