Men’s Conference North leaders, Brooklands MU, dropped to second due to Belper’s pitch flooding. The postponement of their fixture allowed Sheffield Hallam to move to the top of the table on goal difference following their 5-1 home win over bottom side Barford Tigers. Sheffield led by only a goal at half time and had to overcome Martin Marquardt’s 39th minute equaliser to continue their six match unbeaten run. Barford Tiger’s battle for safety produced a glint of hope on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against Olton & WW, Marquardt scoring again for Barford. Leek needed a late strike from Paul Nixon to secure a 3-2 comeback victory over Olton & WW having been a goal down with ten minutes remaining.
Preston continued to chip away at a bid for safety by registering their fifth draw of the season away at Doncaster; the Lancashire side has tasted defeat just once in four games and are now three points ahead of ninth placed Deeside Ramblers. Deeside suffered their fourth defeat in a row at home against Durham University – George Scott scoring twice for the Palatinates.
