Eagle RUFC was formed in 1962 by a group of friends, some of whom worked in the local factory, and who felt it was time to establish a rugby union club in a rugby league heartland. The name Eagle, and the club motif, comes from the Eagle logo of one of those businesses, Rubery Owen, which has long since disappeared from its Great Sankey location.
From a one team club, Eagle grew, and in the late Eighties, were running three senior sides plus a vets team. The club now runs two senior sides and has a flourishing minis section.
