Thats more like it!!

On sat, Eagle 1st team got back to winning ways against a well organised and tough St Mary's Old Boy Team.

A full squad of 20 was assembled and this paid dividend in the first minute when a deft little chip over by scrum half Jason Jackson was collected by James Massey who finished the try off superbly. Louis Smith converted, 7-0!

Eagle were very aggressive from the start with a lot of big hits being made around the ruck and in midfield. This seemed to put off the runners from St mary's and a lot of ball was spilled before contact. All 15 were up for this and after several strong runs from forwards and backs alike, the ball was shipped to midfield for Jack Banzeik (Crazy legs)to take the ball at pace, only one outcome, another try! Again converted by Louis Smith.

St Mary's were always in the game though, they had a large and experienced pack who used the rolling maul very effectivley and were also strong in the scrum. They scored a try in the first half with a five yard scrum which they pushed over the line, half time 14 - 5 to eagle.

The second half was a strange affair! Eagle continued to dominate all over the park and were rewarded with a try from the hooker Michael Taylor, conversion missed.

We then had a period of 16 minutes where there was no play at all and we got two players sin binned! I still havnt worked out how this happened, probably never will!

Eventualy play was started again and it became a bit of a stop and start game with the referee blowing up for a multitude of technical offences. Eagle got flowing again and after a superb switch in the back line a try saving tackle by the St mary;s defender went to waste as ever present prop, Iwan Evans, swiftly picked the ball up at the base of the ruck and stormed over the line for his first try in 35 years!!!

Final score was 24 - 5 to Eagle and a bonus point win.
