Despite a couple of laboured performances in round 2 of their South East pool, Ealing boys qualify for the top tier of the National U19 League.

Ealing first faced Cambridge, but struggled to get into their rhythm against their short-handed opponents. Poor finishing saw Ealing only just edge ahead in the early encounters before their attacking play improved and they pulled away to lead 16-9 at half-time. Ealing then cruised through the second half to win 30-17.

In their second game against Essex, Ealing again failed to put away easy chances and managed just 6 goal in the first half, luckily the defence held firm, while in goal Rodrigo Moniz made a string of great saves, to make sure they led 6-2 at the break. The second half saw only a marginal improvement in attack, but Ealing went on to win 18-11.

Ealing saved their best for the final game against group leaders Olycats, who were last year’s National finalists. Olycats took an early lead, but an excellent spell in both attack and defence saw Ealing move ahead to lead 10-6 at the break. Sadly the pause proved to be their undoing as they lost concentration in attack and failed to put away their chances, a strong spell by Olycats saw them take the initiative back and with five minutes to go Ealing were five goals down. A late 3-0 run saw them pull right back, and Ealing even had other chances to close the gap, but they had left themselves too much to do and lost 15-17.

Ealing finish second in the group behind Olycats and go through to the top tier of the EHA National U19 League. The next round of games will be on Sunday 19 November.
