Earlsdon run Nuneaton Close
Saturday saw another good game at Earlsdon, this time it was Nuneaton in the National Plate 3rd round.
Starting well from the kick off, Nuneaton put immense pressure on the scrum and lineout and were camped in Earlsdon half for the majority of the first half. Individual skill from Callum Forsyth, Austin Wallace, and strong running from Lewis Taylor, Alex McBain, Paddy Darcy always making incisions into the Nuneaton defence. Good defensive work from the front five kept the big Nuneaton players limited in their gains and it was the defensive duties and speed of attack that enabled Austin Wallace to score a great team try after a good run from Rob Gay. Christy Hernon who did well with the kicking duties was unlucky with the conversation attempt.
Half time score 5-0 to Earlsdon.
The second half was much the same and as the forwards began to tire, Nuneaton made greater inroads on each carry and were rewarded with a try out wide.
Conversation missed. Only outstanding commitment to all the team stopped them from scoring again until with 5 mins to go, Nuneaton using their pack, made a blindside shove and scored in the corner. Conversation missed.
Overall this was a much better performance from the players and we look forward to the next meeting in January 2010.
