However Easington left frustrated by a late penalty decision

Easington were again left frustrated by the result on Saturday after conceding a dubious late penalty to draw 2-2 with Letcombe. The visitors certainly lived up to their form, proving more difficult to break down whilst offering very little going forward. Jack Goode barely had a shot to save all game and so the result was particularly difficult to take given the number of chances to seal the victory.

Sports certainly started poorly and Letcombe deservedly took the lead after 9 minutes. After playing some attractive football, Easington failed to get tight to the opposition and a miss timed challenge in the box allowed Letcombe to take the lead from the spot. Andy Goodchild stepped up to convert the penalty kick after being brought down. Easington hit the bar in an attempt draw level and Craig Robinson, returning to the starting line up, managed a neat turn and snap shot which the keeper saved comfortably.
Sports failed to break the deadlock and so it was obvious changes would need to be made.

The second half was completely different as Easington took control. Joel Washburn-Calcutt had to be replaced after picking up an ankle injury and so Luke Hall was introduced and impressed in midfield. Sports always looked dangerous from set pieces, and two minutes after half time Ben Milner won a header from a corner at the far post, and Durrell Livous scored from close range. Easington were in front a minute later, Craig Robinson flicking the ball into the top corner from a left wing cross from Carl Standen.

It seemed there would only be one winner on the day and Letcombe keeper Danny Joyce made a number of smart saves and Easington had a goal disallowed after a close offside decision. In a shock finish after dominating the entire half, Letcombe were awarded a dubious penalty in the 88th minute. It seems that football really needs to work out a clearer interpretation of the handball rule. Unfortunately, a shot come cross was smashed at Luke Hall in the box and he had no time to react with the ball hitting his hand which was by his side. And Goodchild again stepped up to score his second more fortunate penalty of the match.

Easington are now all set for a top 5 finish but after dropping 4 points over the last two matches there will be no chance of getting close to any of the top 4 sides now. Sports entertain Cirencester Town Reserves on Saturday finishing the season with Hook Norton for what could be a crucial game on Monday of next week.
