MILTON UNITED 0 ESFC 3

Striker Craig Robinson is beginning to hit form after returning to Easington Sports at the beginning of November. An early goal from the striker and an impressive display overall is good news for the club going into the festive period. Sports were worked hard by the home side Milton United but overall this was a fine display where the players gave 100% to ensure they finished on top.

Easington continue to start matches brightly and on Saturday this was no different. Sports were 1-0 up after 13 minutes through Craig Robinson’s side foot finish. Danny Poole was quick to win the ball in midfield and he released Mike Spaull down the right, his cross come shot was well anticipated and Robinson was on hand to make a tap in look easy in the middle of the goal. Both Andrew Stidder and Mike Spaull provided good width and a number of enticing deliveries into the box meant Easington could have had more mid-way through the first half. Sam Grant headed over and then moments later he shot straight at the keeper from 6 yards out after bursting into the box. Easington were playing well going up the slope at “The Heights” and eventually doubled their lead from a superb team goal. Craig Robinson and Andrew Stidder both linked up well down the left hand side and Mike Spaull sprinted into the box to power a header into the top corner of the net after a good cross from Stidder was whipped in invitingly. Sports keeper Jack Goode had no real saves to make in the half although he had to be alert to tip one low shot round the post just before half time.

The second half followed a similar pattern of play to the first half. Both teams tried to get the ball down to play and whilst Milton moved the ball around well, they lacked penetration in the final third. Sports on the other hand were able to get in behind the Milton defence with the pace of the front three and a combination of good saves and shots that missed the target meant the scoreline remained at 2-0. Sports were unsettled for a few minutes due to the injury to Aaron Dosanjh after 70 minutes. Young Tom Smith came on to replace him and after a reshuffle of midfield the team weathered a period of pressure to finish strongly. Smith was involved in the final goal of the game right on full time. His excellent ball into the near post was missed by two stretching defenders but Andrew Stidder ran in on the back post to slot home with a shot that went in off the frame of the goal.

Sports continue to pick up points in the league and look to be in a battle with Purton and Abingdon for third place at this moment in the season. Easington will be at home next weekend against Old Woodstock Town and will be looking for more goals and points just before the Christmas run of matches.

Team: Goode, Fitton, Dosanjh (Smith), Rose, C Grant, Spaull, S Grant, Poole, Stidder, Livous (Pearman), Robinson. Subs not used: Beckett
