Stidder, Howkins, Standen and Hughes all on the score sheet as Sports cruise to victory

Easington followed up theiir impressive 5-0 defeat of Burnham Reserves with a comfortable 7-1 victory over Chalfont Wasps at the weekend. In truth, Sports did not have to be at their very best to beat a side that is trying to re-build after the manager and the first team squad left for Holport in the summer.

It is clear that Pearman and McKay have worked hard to get more firepower and players fit for the start of the season. This paid dividends as Easington were 3-0 after 20 minutes with a good solo effort from Andrew Stidder and 2 from Steve Howkins. It could have been more had Steve Howkins made a clean contact with the ball after rounding the keeper. Sports were dominant in the open minutes of the game and Howkins also managed to hit the post in an action packed 30 minutes before being substituted after a clash of knees with a Chalfont defender.

The second half was also full of chances and after a Chalfont player was sent off for abusive language there was certainly going to be no final sting in the tail. Carl Standen (see picture) was on hand to score at the back post after a well worked team goal on 52 minutes before scoring an excellent penalty in the 80th minute after Niall Hiiggins was brought down in the box. Chalfont did manage to score a consolation goal after deputising keeper James McMahon was unlucky not to tip a shot over the bar but just in instead. There was still time for debutant Ben Hughes to get on the score sheet. After working hard all game he got his reward breaking through twice in the last minutes of the game to score at the near post on both occasions.

A dominant display against a team rebuilding. Sports will need to work harder against top 4 contenders Headington Amateurs at the weekend.

The match is Addison Road - 3.00pm kick off.
