Man of the match performance from Luke Gardener and another goal for his tally...

Terry Fitton (see picture) heads away as Sports remain defensively strong for the whole game. For more pictures from the game click here

Luke Gardener continues to grow in confidence as the season draws to a close. There were again strong performances from Luke and his strike partner James McMahon last night and it could have been 5-0 by the end of the match with both strikers a threat all night.

Sports ran out comfortable winners playing much better than in previous weeks. This was an very good all round performance with no weak performances. Brothers Lewis and John Travers both had good games in midfield and Niall Higgins moved into a back three with Craig Pearman and Ben Milner to cover the injuries and player unavailability. Sports never looked like conceding all night whilst at the same time the home side played some of their best football of the season.

Luke Gardener nearly gave Sports the lead mid way through the first half. James McMahon out jumped the keeper to head over the on rushing keeper. gardener followed things up only to be pipped to the post by the defender who cleared the ball off the line. McMahon then went close, missing an open goal and scooping over the bar from inside the 6 yard box before Gardener out paced the Clanfield defence again only to miss place his lob over the keeper and just wide of the post.

In the second half, Sports were just as dominant. There was a real contrast of styles with the visitors looking to play more directly whilst the home side looked to pass through the midfield. There were numerous chances to take the lead with the visiting keeper again on hand to stretch out across the goal to block a shot from Gardener. James McMahon also stretched the defence and was unlucky with an effort and Ben Milner headed just wide from a corner. With the game looking to finish frustratingly as another drawn match for Sports, Gardener again outpaced the defence before cutting back inside, smashing a shot low into the far corner of the net. A special mention must also be included for Tom Smith who came on to finish the match strongly in midfield. As Sports look ahead to next season there will be an opportunity to bring more young players through from the under 18s into the mens teams. Young Tom Smith and CJ Grant have certainly shown there is plenty of promise in the under 18s development side.

Sports continue to pick up points in this tough run up to the end of the season. Managers McKay and Pearman perhaps look at the table and rue the 3 point deduction from an earlier match against Carterton and a poor start to the season as Sports look likely to finish mid table despite taking points off all of the top sides in the league....

Another home fixture this weekend!!! Sports take on Fairford which will be another tough test and will certainly be an entertaining encounter! Kick off 3.00PM
