A great response from Easington First team as they bounce back

After a disappointing opening game of the season Sports continue their fine form away from home with a near faultless performance from the squad. The only downside to the game was the loss of Matt Dixon (goalkeeper) after he dislocated his shoulder during the game.

The score flattered the home side and this game could have finished 8 or 9 -0 such was the dominance of Sports.

With a number of players unavailable, the game could have been a potential banana skin with a number of first team squad players playing for Burnham. A great start was demanded and Sports certainly delivered this with Steve Howkins nearly on the score sheet twice before he eventually put Easington ahead after 20 minutes. With excellent width provided by Carl Standen and Dan Reeves on a much larger pitch set up for Southern League football, chances were frequent throughout the match. Andrew Stidder eventually doubled the lead after a some great link up play leaving the visitors in control of the match at half time.

Three points were secured after 65 minutes when Carl Standen whipped in a delightful corner which the Burnham defender could only manage to head against the post before the ball eventually went over the goal line. CJ Grant made it 4-0 after breaking out from defence (see player picture). The young defender played the ball into Howkins who slipped a good through ball back to Grant who had maintained his run. Grant then slotted calmly past the keeper. Andrew Stidder wrapped things up after some quick thinking from James McMahon in goal released Stidder with a long raking clearance. Stidder timed the bounce of the ball well and again out paced the defence and the keeper to coolly finish low in the corner. There was still time for Stidder to miss out on his hat-trick after being denied by the keeper who tipped his volley onto the cross bar in the last minutes of the game.

Sports will gain much confidence from this performance and the efforts of the whole squad. Pearman and McKay will be looking for the team to build on the performance this week at home to Chalfont Wasps.
