Tigers Try Hard to Stem The Tide
Easts made their way over to Hill Top to play Cottingham Tigers.
The conditions warm and cloudy but spoilt by the stiff breeze.
The home side kicked off into the wind and made it to the visitors 40 but the ball well taken on the right wing by Marley Lewis Potter, he brushed aside would be tacklers and won the foot race with plenty to spare for probably the fastest score of the season, thus far, and with the conversion made simple after the under the sticks try Joe Rustill converted to see Easts lead 6-0.
Next up was Liam Barnet Major who caught the re-start with confidence and ran with purpose, Jack Brown took the ball in with power and was joined by Rustill, Elliott Jones shipped the ball wider and when Rustill returned to Jones his pass taken at pace by Reece Smith for a wonderful team try. Rustill knocked the extras and the Blue and White machine was cranking-up. Easts up 12-0.
There was some sterling work by Jordan Wynne and Jack Brown on attack and defence and he was joined in effort with Tarran Lovick, Jack Wilson and Bradlee Cox.
The home side tried hard to stem the tide and should be applauded for shear effort, but that alone would not be enough.
An error by the Tigers on their own 30 saw Easts pass the ball at speed with Brown, Rustill and finally Jones see Potter over for his second, a valiant attempt at the goal by Rustill just fell short and the score moved to Easts 16-0.
Barnaby Teasdale was making his presence known with strong defence and Illusive running and he was joined in the illusive stakes by 'Benji Marshall' Smith.
The final points of a stop-start first half came when that man Potter made space for himself when the ball shipped wide and he ran through iffy defence to score a try right under the sticks. Rustill couldn’t miss and indeed didn’t.

The Easts coaches would have been reasonably happy with their charges efforts, although completion should have been better.
As the visitors turned around for the second half Easts faced both the slope and wind, however they did have the scoreboard on their side.
There was more of an arm-wrestle at this stage of the game and Cott realised the best way to go was to up the physical stakes and they did. The home number thirteen worked hard, showed neat touches and also he was not intimidated, thus he shone for the home side.
Eventually the pressure paid when a strong drive by Jones was taken on by Rustill and Brown and a smart short ball by Zak Roberts found Teasdale running with pace and finished nicely under the sticks. Wynne converted and Easts running at 28-0.
A good catch by Curtis Williamson on his own 30 was improved by his weaving run and when the ball went through hands down the right Lovick ran strongly, and close to the home try line Jones picked the ball up and dummied right only to zip a ball out for Williamson to score wide on the left. Smart indeed. The kick against the wind by Wynne was close but no cigar. Easts 32-0.
Lewis Cooke, who was unlucky not to score from a later effort, Lewis Foyston and Dylan Hayward all made drives for the Easts cause.
Roberts ran well and made a couple of telling passes, the latter a short effort on Easts 40 to Callum Tranmer, just introduced, who run through the defensive line on the burst and scorch the footrace under the posts. Wynne added the conversion for an Easts lead 38-0.
Cott continued in effort and made it as difficult as possible for the visitors. Easts though have determination of their own.
A zippy pass from Lovick saw Major through a gap down the right and his pace did the rest to see him under the sticks. Wynne punted the extras and Easts 44-0.
The re-start caught well by Roberts and through plenty of hands, Leon Ellerington scooted at acting half and Smith made space and ran down the left with a swift inter-change between Wynne and back again Smith scored a great, and last try of the game. Wynne with the conversion and that was that.
