EKCC UNDER 11s' IN ACTION ON 20/7/12 AT AYR
EK Under 11's team travelled to sunny Ayr on Friday 20/7/12 and put up a great show against the homesters.
EK Under 11's travelled to Ayr short handed with only a very young six to face an eight from Ayr.
This situation was due to holidays, but the EK youngsters surprised a few opponents and friends alike, by putting on a good display in the field, backed up by some accurate bowling, which saw 5 Ayr batters clean bowled by EK's young attack.
Tristan Kiely followed up his promising debut for the team last week ,with a further 2 dismissals, both bowled,at Ayr.
Johnathan Richardson bowled 4 tidy overs in taking 1 for 10,whilst his sister Beth in her first competetive U11 game also took a wicket, to the surprise of the Ayr batsman ,whom she bowled. Another debutant , Rory Mullen was unfazed by his debut and he also did well in bowling 4 overs for 14 and 1 wicket.
The captain on the night James Banks, for once, failed to take a wicket, but his sharpness in the field, enabled him to run out 2 Ayr batters.
The Ayr innings closed on a gettable 82 for 7 ,which was a net score of 47.
In reply, EK found the bowling of the Ayr players difficult to score against and wickets started to fall.ANDREW MORRIS was smartly stumped ,when he strayed from his crease and later bowled and after 5 overs EK had scored only 11 for 2 wickets. His partner J Richardson fought hard and was not out after 5 overs.
The next pair to the crease were Beth Richardson and Tristan and these two battled away against accurate bowling and neither of them was dismissed, in their allocation of 5 overs.[A great effort]After 10 overs the score had advanced to a mere 20 but for only 2 down.
Banks and Mullen then joined forces in the middle and unfortunately for EK ,the Ayr bowlers took a further 3 wickets as EK only managed a further 5 runs by the end of the 15th over
Finally Skipper Banks and A Morris batted out the last 5 overs , losing no more wickets ,but only managing another 11 runs, as EK finished on 36 for 5 after 20 overs, which was a net score of 11.
So another loss and once again the batting needs improvement, so here's hoping for an improvement in the weather at EKCC so that some batting coaching can be administered.
This young team did well on the night in meeting all of their targets, namely to take 5 wickets[exceeded by 2 wickets],then to lose no more than 5 wickets[achieved] and to score 30 runs or more [achieved]
