The junior section enjoyed their second week outdoors for training last night and the session was very successful. A few sore hands about though!

With training now firmly established outside and the seniors training in the middle - an opportunity has now presented itself for the juniors to get in the nets with the coaches to start working on their batting and bowling techniques.

The format we used I think is a good one that we will be taking much fuller advantage of in the coming weeks - one active net with a batter and the bowlers - and one net specifically for 1-on-1 coaching on either the bowling or the batting. Big mention to all the participants in this net session who have been coming along really nicely. To mention a few, Aiden McCalls and Caroline Deighan looked particularly well put together when batting. And on the bowling side, Euan McCoan, Fergus Kane and Ed Perrett were consistently threatening. Special mention to Euan O'Brien in the bowling regard. Despite being a relative new comer, he has taken to bowling like a natural and if he keeps improving will certainly be a very dangerous bowler. A few key points points for everyone around the idea of getting the backlift of the bat nice and straight and waiting for the ball. Youve got far more time than you think!

We proceeded the net with a good fielding session to which everyone worked really hard. The throwing and ground fielding ability is coming on miles nearly every week and we will start to transition to stopping balls that are hit really hard, since all the kids made the thrown ball along the ground look too easy! We trialled doing 'proper' high catches, however I think even optimistic me, might concede we are a few weeks too soon on that with the number of sore hands and the possible need to build some confidence. So although catching will form a consistent part of all our sessions, we are going to work on building it up! A+ to everyone for the effort.

Next week will see another net session and fielding drills. Also, keep your eyes peeled for details of the summer holiday camps coming soon - which will give additional training opportunities to all current under 11s players.
