Early season cricket is a messy business! The picture shows all the dye having rubbed off every cricket ball we own!

Having spent most of the day at the club, your author contemplated whether the weather was good enough to move the juniors outdoors.

A check of the weather forecast, a look up at the clouds - opinions sought - and the decision was made! Come to Torrance House instead... and wrap up warm!

And so most of the team descended. It was really great to see them rejoined by Ed Perrett. A welcome back to a big character in the under 11 team. The seniors had the nets this week and it was 'blowing a hooly' so I decided a solid hour of running about and fielding was in order to welcome us back to the great outdoors.

We started with alot of ground fielding. Chasing, stopping, working as a team. A big shout out here to everyone who I think full of initial energy ran really hard after the ball. Then next we moved to the dreaded catching. Two lines, throwing to each other and then gradually getting further away and then further still. After we had finished that, we had a few sore hands! But thats part of being a cricketer! They will harden up the more we do it.

We then worked on something we are very mixed at- throwing! Split into two teams we had a practice into some goals we had set up. Good results! And then we moved onto the game. With Caroline, Lewis, Anna and Fergus facing off against Ewan, Ed and Aidan. Over 10 minutes of throwing and running we ebbed and flowed between one team and another until at the end- Caroline, Lewis, Anna and Fergus were the victors by one point!

A few people worthy of mentioning - Lewis for his consistently excellent throwing all session. Anna for giving everyone a showing up in the ground fielding session - throwing herself into stopping everything and invariably succeeding. And again, a big thumbs up for the general effort from everyone.

We left it by watching the seniors in practice in the nets. I hope lessons were learned in terms of the good positive foot movement on show and the straight bats that were in evidence.

See you all next week!
