Festival Greenock 2015

Sunday 24th May - Away to Greenock

First outing of the season!

After missing two festivals thanks to poor weather, the season finally kicked off on Sunday at Greenock. With a smaller number than usual (Holiday weekend) we took four players plus a guest of Joshua to the competition. With the addition of two players from Kilmarnock and one from West we had enough to get three games in.

1st match - Weirs
Opening match we faced up to a young but enthusiastic Weirs team. They reminded me of our team a season or two ago. We decided to bowl first with some excellent technique on show from everyone and Lewis stood out taking several wickets. The fielding overall was brilliant with lots of athleticism. The team didn't concede a single boundary in the game! We took the match by a margin of around 70 runs.

2nd match - Greenock
And so on to the hosts. A much stronger (and older) opponent. Again some energetic fielding, with Edward showing his agility as wicket keeper and strong bowling from Joshua, who also managed some fine stops in the field. The game was tight all the way through and very competitive but we secured a tremendous win by one run!

3rd match - Uddingston
Into the third match of the day - Lewis already with the smell of McDonalds in his nostrils..... We fielded first again and another strong performance ensued, Joshua made some great stops near the boundary and Caroline with her usual laser-sighted bowling, pitching in with a maiden over. We kept Uddingston at bay with our excellent fielding, only allowing them five runs with our excellent wicket taking (opposition lose runs if we take wickets), again Lewis pitching in with two wickets from two bowls. Then it was our turn to bat. A little distracted by the possibility of a McDonalds (if they won all three games), we quickly collapsed turning a target of 5 into 45 within a few overs. Although there was much enjoyment to be had for the spectators as Edward and Caroline, fuelled by Fredo Bars, went all out to try and get the game back. Edward insisted on taking some crazy chances which was balanced by Caroline's steely determination to reign her batting partner in. Lots and lots of calling required from Caroline, it sounded more like some sort of dog obedience school than a cricket match....STAY!

Overall an excellent day out and a great start to the season. I'm really pleased with the teamwork and effort put in by everyone, and great communication between our players. Well done!
