Biggest win for five years

East London recorded their biggest win for five years when they thumped Canvey Island 102-0 at the Memorial Ground in West Ham on Saturday (12 December).
In a master-class of attacking rugby the home side ran in 16 tries with both forwards and backs contributing to the massive total. Ten different players from the 18-man squad crossed the whitewash with 11 of the tries converted.
First-half scorers were openside flanker and skipper Nick Parrott (10 mins), second row Billy Clayton (13 mins), fly-half Kieran Oliver (15 mins), second row Vinny Lally (18 mins), hooker Will Masters (21 mins), left wing Tommy Little (28 mins) and Lally again (38 mins). Five were converted by full back Ryan Billinghurst for a 45-0 score at half-time.
The second half went the same as the first with scores from outside centre Sean Curd (43 mins), number eight Rob Herbert (51 mins), Nick Parrott (54 mins), Tommy Little (59 mins), a hat-trick from replacement centre Kenton Stanford (67, 72 and 75 mins) and two from inside centre Jono George (78 and 80 mins). Conversions came from Billinghurst, Oliver and George.
The win extended East London’s unbeaten start to nine wins from nine games in Essex League One. They are tied at the top of the table on 44 points, the same as leaders Braintree who claim first place by virtue of a four points better points difference (269 against 265).
East London, the league’s top scorers with 376 points, travel to Billericay on Saturday looking for win number ten. Head coach Gary Pearmain said: “It is hard not to get carried with Saturday’s result but that game is in the past and we expect a tough match at Billericay. We picked up a few knocks but we’ll be training hard this week and hope to go into 2016 unbeaten.”
