Fourth victory in Essex League 1

East London continued their winning start to the season with a 50-22 win over Clacton at the Memorial Ground in West Ham on Saturday.
Their fourth victory of the season puts them second in Essex League 1 just a point behind leaders Braintree.
Saturday’s dominant win saw the home side clock up four tries in each half. They were in front inside six minutes when left wing Tom Little intercepted a Clacton pass in his own half. He was tackled just feet from the goal line but centre Roman Gogjila picked up the ball to score. Fly-half Ryan Billinghurst missed the conversion.
Clacton replied with a penalty but were constantly being pushed back by a powerful East London pack of forwards. From one such scrum on 18 minutes number eight Rob Herbert picked up and dived over. Billinghurst converted the try.
Clacton responded within four minutes but on 33 minutes the home side extended their lead when centre Sean Curd outpaced three defenders from the 25 metre line to touch down. Billinghurst converted. Tom Little repeated the feat on the stroke of half-time for the first of his three tries. The conversion was missed.
Within two minutes of the restart home skipper Nick Parrott broke and fed full back Daryl O’Brien who scored in the left corner. The conversion was again missed.
The try of the game came on 55 minutes. Replacement forward Oliver Hillyer-Riley broke from the half-way line. He dummied to kick the ball which bamboozled the Clacton defence and he then raced away to score in the right corner. Right wing Kwesi Scantlebury converted.
Try number seven came on 61 minutes when Tom Little scored on the left. Scantlebury converted. Clacton scored a converted try of their own four minutes later before Little rounded off the home scoring with his third try on 75 minutes. Scantlebury converted to being up 50 points. Clacton scored a try at the death.
East London now have a break until 24 October when they travel to neighbours Millwall. Coach Gary Pearmain said: “We’ve had a good start but must not get carried away. Three of our wins have been at home. We have to show we can put in good performances on our travels.”
