Little goes a long way

A hat-tick of tries by left wing Tom Little helped East London maintain their position at the top of Essex League 1 with a 56-0 victory against Stanford le Hope at the Memorial Ground in West Ham on Saturday (9 January).
East London were the dominant side throughout and mastered the heavy pitch and rain far better than their opponents.
Little opened the scoring on five minutes in the left corner but fly-half Ryan Billinghurst failed to land the conversion. Second row forward Oliver Hillyer-Riley added two further tries on 15 and 20 minutes. The first was thanks to a driving maul by the forwards and the second came when he received a quick throw from a line-out and raced away from a static defence. Billinghurst scored one of the conversions.
Little scored his second try on the half-hour which Billinghurst converted for a 24-0 lead at the break.
Hooker Will Masters went over four minutes into the second half and was followed by a brace on 53 minutes and 66 minutes from openside flanker and skipper Nick Parrott.
Parrott’s back row colleague, blindside flanker Brian Kennedy scored on 69 minutes before Little completed his hat-trick on 72 minutes. Outside centre Sean Curd competed the scoring three minutes from time with a try which he converted.
It was the eleventh win in succession for East London and leaves them as the only unbeaten team in Essex League 1, four points ahead of Braintree who they travel to on Saturday.
Head coach Gary Pearmain said: “Braintree will be a good test for to see how far we have progressed. This time a year ago they were playing two tiers above us in London 2 North East division but had to pull out of the league. We’re glad they have managed to keep on playing and we’re looking forward to giving them a competitive top of the table game on Saturday.”
