Win brings successful 2016 to an end

East London Ladies rounded off 2016 with a thumping 37-10 win over Woodbridge to move to second place in the Women's National Championship South East North 1 division.
On a chilly afternoon at the Memorial Ground in West Ham on Sunday (4 December) the home side came from a try down to virtually wrap up the game before the interval.
An unconverted Woodbridge try on five minutes when the visitors won a scrum against the head was the wake up call East London needed.
With home props Sam Leetch and Kizito Christine marauding at will through the Woodbridge defence, they were on level terms on 12 minutes. Christine picked up the ball after a scrum and burst over from five yards.
East London took the lead on 19 minutes when an excellent passing move along the backs saw right wing Kate Webb outpace three defenders to score in the right corner.
The forwards then took over again and Christine scored her second try after a series of crash balls from the dominant home pack.
Number eight Ciara Baxter, playing her first full game of the season after injury, wrapped up the four-try bonus point when she scored on 27 minutes.
She almost had another on the stroke of half time when a try was chalked off because of a double movement with ball in hand.
East London increased the lead nine minutes into the second half. Pressure from the forwards recovered the ball close to the Woodbridge line and it was passed out to the left where outside centre Tamsin Nooney scored.
On 53 minutes Nooney scored again after right wing Rachel King was tackled short of the line but managed to recycle possession for the backs who fed Nooney on the left.
The final East London try came on 56 minutes when full back Rachel Edmead dashed from 30 yards out to score under the posts. Leetch added the conversion.
Woodbridge added a try just before the end as East London introduced all their replacements from the bench.
Skipper Baxter said: "Woodbridge were strong opponents and gave us a good game.
"This has been a great 2016 for East London Ladies what with winning promotion and being named women's team of the year at the National Rugby Awards. Let's see what 2017 brings."
