A seesaw Wakefield derby went the way of Normanton Knights as they pipped Eastmoor Dragons 40-34.

Tries to Liam Brooks and James Smith, both converted by Andrew Greaves, gave Normanton an early 12-0 lead, although their advantage was soon cut to just two points as Adrian Mulcahy and Michael Williams scored within a minute of each other.

However, Greaves grabbed an interception try and landed the goal to make it 18-10 at the break.

Just like before the Dragons bounced back as Richard Colley danced his way over for a Ade Mulcahy goaled effort, before Adam Thaler touched down to reduce the gap yet again.

Eastmoor were reduced to 11-men following the sin-binning of Stuart Jones and the sending off of Michael Jedynak, but despite their numerical disadvantage they scored back to back tries via Ryan Denton and Peter Craven to take a slender 24-22 lead.

Twelve minutes remained as the impressive Ade Mulcahy increased his side’s advantage but it simply wasn’t to be for his side.

The Knights piled on the pressure and three unanswered tries courtesy of John Wheeldon (2) and Andrew Morris, plus three more Greaves conversions proved to be just enough
