EP Beaten by a Solitary Goal at the Beacon
A fortunate goal settles a tight match as EP lost 0-1
A disappointing start to 2019 for East Preston with a defeat to in form Hassocks at the Beacon.
A poor first 20 mins from EP saw Hassocks put the away side under a lot of pressure as EP found it difficult to get a foothold into the game. The first real chance of the match came halfway through the first half when a Hassocks shot from the edge of the box struck the EP post and rebounded to safety.
The only goal of the game had a little bit of fortune about it as the ball was cleared on the EP left by Lewis Jenkins the ball hit Luke Brodie and rebounded back into the path of the Hassocks winger Littlejohn whose cross found Phil Johnson free on the edge of the six yard box the ball hitting his knee and flying into the top of the net to give Hassocks the lead.
Half Time: 0-1
East Preston were much more positive in the second half and dominated the half but were unable to create many clear cut chances. Dan Huet had a shot on 49 mins which Green in the Hassocks goal saved. Halfway through the half Brodie flicked a ball goal wards from a corner and the ball went over the bar.
Hassocks managed the game out well as EP grew increasingly frustrated and ended up collecting four yellow cards in what turned out to be a poor start to the new year.
Manager Bob Paine said ‘We didn’t start the game well and gave Hassocks something to hang onto although their goal had an element of luck about it. We were much better in the second half with much more desire and put them under a lot of pressure without creating much in the way of clear cut chances.”
