East Retford 2nd XV 31 Pts V Chesterfield 2nd XV 7 Pts
Retford started the game well, strong drives by the forwards put them on the front foot but for a few handling errors and over ambitious offloads the first try would have come sooner.
As it turned out the first try came from an audacious chip and chase from Andy Daniels.
After this Retford started to take control, a break from Sean Dove and continued pressure by the forwards eventually led to Andy Daniels powering through for his second try of the match which was duly converted by James Wright
. By now Retford's forward play was starting to take control of the match and apart from a missed shot at goal Chesterfield threatened very little.
After the half time break the pattern of play continued for the first few minutes until Ross Marsden
received a yellow card for some vigilante enforcement of the ruck. Some tough defensive work followed with great tackling from forwards and backs and couple of steals from defensive lineouts meant that when parity in numbers was restored Retford had not conceded a point.
Retford then began to attack in a similar fashion to the previous half with some driving runs from the forwards allowed Kurt Spencer
to dive over the line from short range for Retford's third try which was converted. After this Chesterfield after some pressure eventually fashioned an outside break which they duly took advantage of to score their first try.
This was the kick Retford needed to again dominate the game. The combination of powerful running from the forwards and pace from the backs allowed Sean Dove to break free for a fine solo try. Retford continued to attack in the closing minutes, which allowed Iain Balmer
to spot a gap and score in the final play of the match.
All in all an excellent performance from Retford, Men of the match for the forwards went to Andy Daniels and to Ross Marsden
for the backs.
