East Thurrock Utd 8 Perry St 5

Welsh Hits double hat-trick as Rocks stay top.

East Thurrock Utd started the second half of the season as League leaders and were hosts to Perry Street in the first game of the new year.
Sonny Kirsopp put Rocks ahead after 5 minutes with an assist from Owen Welsh much against the run of play, as Perry street continued to threaten the Rocks goal with Rocks keeper Jarred Plunkett making a fine save to deny the visitors drawing level after 8 minutes.
Most of the play was in Rocks half as Perry Street failed to put away the many chances they were creating. After 21 Minutes Rocks Captain Owen Welsh got his first of six goals, it started with a defensive clearance from Harry Gerrard who found Sonny Kirsopp who set up Owen Welsh to score.
Two more goals for Rocks before half time, a fine cross by Matthew Girvan found Owen Welsh to make it three nil, Matthew Girvan nearly made it four after hitting the post after a fine shot, a pass from Spencer Ellmore gave Owen Welsh his first half hat-trick as well as Rocks surprisingly keeping a clean sheet as the visitors Perry Street undeservedly went in four nil down.

Second half saw the visitors claw there way back into the match with two goals in the first five minutes of the first half, Rocks were under pressure and in danger of conceding more until a fine pass from Harry Clarke put Owen Welsh away to extend Rocks lead to 5-2. Matthew Girvan made it 6-2 following a pass from Sonny Kirsopp.

In recent matches East Thurrock had given the home fans a nail biting finish after lswitching off and allowing the opponents back into the match, this game was no exception and full credit to Perry Street who never gave up , with 10 Minutes left the Rocks allowed the visitors to score 3 goals in five minutes pulling the score back to 6-5.

Owen Welsh broke away and restored a two goal lead after 33 Minutes, but still the visitors came back again after they were awarded a Penalty, which was spectacularly saved by Jarred Plunkett diving to his right and pushing over the bar.

Owen Welsh got his double hat-trick in injury time to secure Rocks seventh straight league win, full credit to Perry Street for there part in this thrilling match, who were so unfortunate to leave with no points.

Following the match the following email was sent to the Chelmsford Football League by the Perry Street Manager..............

Dear Steve
Firstly happy new year to you and your family.
I've very rarely contacted a league Sec direct during my last 8  years involvement as a coach and Manager in youth football.(in fact only once before)
Today we played our away fixture Vs E.Thurrrock Utd a match which we incidentally lost- but no matter whatsoever.
I'd just like to say what a breath of fresh air it is too meet such a sporting team with an excellent Manager and coach and parents who actively applaude both sets of players.
Sometimes ,with all the aggravation involved, it makes you sad on match days and detracts from the enjoyment of the game for coaches and players alike.
Today was a totally different experience  and sincere thanks to all at E.T Utd U13's what a fantastic bunch of players and they are a credit to their Club
Hope you dont mind me copying in their Manager and Sec because they deserve  credit for their impeccable manners,on field behaviour and attitude.
Hope they go on to win the league.
Howard Knight
Manager PSFC U13's
