Learn more about highly regarded new signing Aran Basi, as the dominant centre half stopped for a quick chat to introduce himself to the clubs fans.

The Eagles have strengthened their promotion push and squad credentials in one move, after confirming the signing of highly rated defender Aran Basi from NCEL Premier Division side Albion Sports.

Aran brings plenty of quality and experience with him, having represented Albion in the league above Eccleshill for the last four years. His experience will prove important as Sean Regan’s side approach the business end of the season, looking to secure promotion.

The big centre back took part in a quick Q&A to introduce himself formally to fans of the club, as he joins up with the squad in the latter stages of the season;

Q. What is it about Eccleshill United FC that attracted you here, and are you excited to get involved with the side?

A. The club is very stable and well established, with great people surrounding it. However, I would say the main thing that attracted me was the club’s big ambition to go out and achieve great things in the near future.

Q. The Eagles find themselves in a strong position in the promotion battle and are on good form this season. How do you think you will help the squad in that battle?

A. It’s clear that the team are doing fantastically well at the moment, and are in a great position to go all the way and finish in the top two come April. I’m hoping I can bring experience (due to my four years in the NCEL Premier Division) and offer my services to the squad by helping the lads achieve promotion.

Q. We understand you have a good relationship with a few of the squads players, were those relationships a big deciding factor in you signing for the club?

A. My cousin Anny (Anil Singh) and best mate, Sam Bradley, were both huge factors in me joining the club, having played with them both before. I’ve also played with (Matt) Mathers and Levi (Maturine), both at Albion Sports. The management team were also a factor, as they seem very focused on the task ahead.

Q. What player, past or present, would you say you admire the most and try emulate your game off?

A. I would have to say I’ve admired Stevie G all my life, being a Liverpool fan! However, emulating Nemanja Matic on the field is what I try to do the most, keeping things simple and being left footed. As a centre back, I would have to say Vincent Kompany is a big influence on my playstyle.

Q. Finally, what type of player are you and what is your favoured role?

A. I can play midfield and centre back, and love getting stuck into tackles. Being 6”3, I love winning the aerial battles too! To end with, I’d just like to say- I can’t wait to get started and become an Eagle!

Aran is a very impressive signing for Sean Regan’s side, and the quality he brings into it will only help them improve as they look to secure promotion into the NCEL Premier Division.
